AZ Attorney General Recognizes National Healthcare Decisions Day

GOODYEAR –  Attorney General Mark Brnovich recognized National Healthcare Decisions Day in Goodyear at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), where he was invited to speak about the importance of the Attorney General's Office's (AGO) Life Care Planning packets. The documents involve all of the necessary forms to help Arizonans make their choices known about end-of-life care.

They include:

  • Health Care Power of Attorney
  • Living Will
  • Mental Health Care Power of Attorney
  • Pre-Hospital Medical Directive (Do Not Resuscitate or DNR)

General Brnovich was the first AG to make these documents easy to use and readily available to Arizona consumers, for free.

The forms should be signed, witnessed, and registered with a third party agent of the state so that health care providers can access them in an emergency.

April is also National Donate Life Month and several speakers, including General Brnovich, shared personal stories of how their lives have been impacted by organ donation.

AGTV spoke with Chaplain Jeff Paparone of Cancer Treatment Centers of America, a part of the City of Hope, about how CTCA is educating 100% of their patients and families about the Life Care Planning packets and offering assistance in filling them out.

In 2021, the AGO's Community Outreach provided 8,850 Life Care Planning packets to the public. Online, 18,602 packets were downloaded.
