PHOENIX – Today, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office announces that Augustin Nava-Nunez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Possession of a Narcotic Drug (Fentanyl) for Sale, with One Prior Felony Conviction.
His son, Agustin Nava Jr. has also been sentenced to two years in prison, to be followed by supervised probation for two years, for Illegally Conducting an Enterprise and Attempt to Commit Possession of a Narcotic Drug (Fentanyl) for Sale.
“My office has been directed to aggressively investigate and prosecute those who are part of the network of fentanyl dealers infiltrating our communities,” said Attorney General Mayes. “If you are contributing to the illegal distribution of fentanyl through Arizona, we will find you, and we will bring you to justice.”
Investigators at the Attorney General’s Office began a long-term investigation into a drug trafficking organization beginning on July 15, 2024. Through this investigation, law enforcement determined Augustin Nava-Nunez was involved in illegal drug transactions in the Phoenix area. Investigators conducted surveillance on several transactions and noted that Nava Jr. would drive Nava-Nunez to the transaction and then conduct the actual transactions for his father.
On October 21, 2024, investigators became aware that Nava-Nunez was in possession of “2 packages,” and when police searched the residence shared by Nava-Nunez and Nava Jr, they seized approx .777 grams (7,500 pills) of fentanyl in a trashcan in the backyard.
Nava-Nunez was sentenced to 10 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections on June 18, 2025. On May 20, 2025, Nava Jr. was sentenced to two years in the Department of Corrections, to be followed by supervised probation for two years.
This case was prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office Criminal Division.
