Attorney General Mayes Vows to Continue Case Against Live Nation/Ticketmaster for Illegally Monopolizing Live Entertainment Industry, Despite DOJ Settlement

PHOENIX – Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes released the following statement regarding the ongoing antitrust case against Live Nation, which owns Ticketmaster, for illegally monopolizing the live entertainment industry and concert ticketing services:

In May 2024, Arizona joined a bipartisan coalition of state attorneys general and the U.S. Department of Justice in suing Live Nation and Ticketmaster for monopolizing the concert ticketing market and using that monopoly power to reinforce its stranglehold over live entertainment venues. For too long, Ticketmaster has extracted billions of dollars from a rigged system - one that has made it harder for fans to see the artists they love and driven up ticket prices for Arizona concertgoers.

The case against Ticketmaster is strong, and I am committed to seeing it through. The settlement recently announced by the federal government does not adequately remedy the harm done to Arizona consumers and the live music marketplace. Arizona is prepared to continue litigating this case alongside our bipartisan coalition of attorneys general to hold Ticketmaster accountable in court and secure real relief for music fans.

I will not stop fighting illegal monopolies that hurt Arizonans. Ticketmaster has operated above the law for too long, and my office will keep pushing until we restore competition and fairness to the live music industry.

Arizona joins California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and the District of Columbia in continuing the antitrust case against Live Nation/Ticketmaster.
