Attorney General Mayes Announces Sentencing of Drug Courier

PHOENIX – Attorney General Kris Mayes announced today that Tomas Gamez-Robles was sentenced in Pima County Superior Court on December 30, 2024 after pleading guilty to multiple felonies. Gamez-Robles pled guilty to an Attempt to Transport a Narcotic Drug for Sale, a class 3 felony; Weapons Misconduct – Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Drug Felony, a class 4 felony; and Illegally Conducting an Enterprise, a class 3 felony.

“Individuals who transport deadly drugs into our communities will be held accountable,” said Attorney General Kris Mayes. “My office will continue to use every tool at our disposal to combat the spread of dangerous drugs and protect Arizonans.”

Gamez-Robles was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for an Attempt to Transport a Narcotic Drug for Sale, 3.5 years in prison for Illegally Conducting an Enterprise, and 2.5 years in prison for Weapons Misconduct. All sentences will run concurrently. Additionally, Gamez-Robles was ordered to pay $4,500 to the State Anti-Racketeering Revolving Fund and to forfeit the firearm involved in the case.

Gamez-Robles was arrested on March 5, 2024, in Pima County, Arizona, after attempting to transport 1.429 pounds of fentanyl pills for sale. At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of a firearm and approximately 0.128 pounds of methamphetamine, which he also intended to sell. Investigators determined that Gamez-Robles was involved in a criminal enterprise and knowingly conducted its activities through racketeering, trafficking fentanyl pills, methamphetamine, and heroin to generate cash profits.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety conducted the investigation, and Assistant Attorney General Sabrina Lochner prosecuted the case. A copy of the plea agreement is available below.
