Attorney General Mayes Announces 15-Year Prison Sentence for Phoenix Man Who Sexually Exploited Children

PHOENIX — Attorney General Kris Mayes today announced that Luis Alberto Ortiz, 38, was sentenced to 15 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to two counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and two counts of Attempt to Commit Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, all dangerous crimes against children, in two separate Maricopa County Superior Court cases.

“Crimes against children are among the most heinous cases my office prosecutes,” said Attorney General Mayes. “If you abuse children, my office and our law enforcement partners will find you and ensure justice is served. I want to thank the Phoenix Police Department for their investigative work on this case.”

In CR2025-003995-001, Ortiz pleaded guilty to one count of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, a class 2 felony, and two counts of Attempt to Commit Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, class 3 felonies, stemming from conduct on or about August 3, 2025. In CR2025-006148-001, Ortiz pleaded guilty to an additional count of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, a class 2 felony, stemming from conduct on or about September 20, 2023.

Ortiz was sentenced to 15 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections. Upon his release from prison, Ortiz will be placed on lifetime supervised probation with sex offender and computer usage terms. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for life and submit to DNA testing.

The case was investigated by the Phoenix Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Haleigh Wright of the Attorney General's Office.
