Ex-Town Clerk Will Serve One Year in Prison for Stealing Town Funds

Pinetop-Lakeside — A former town clerk of Pinetop-Lakeside will spend one year in prison after pleading guilty to stealing more than $32,000 from the town.

40-year-old Leah Chavez was sentenced on Wednesday morning. She pleaded guilty to one count of Theft, and one count of Misuse of Public Monies.

In 2016, Chavez charged approximately $13,000 on a Pinetop-Lakeside credit card for personal expenses such as shopping, car payments, and home landscaping. Additionally, she stole more than $8,000 in cash from the town and wired herself more than $9,000.

Couple Indicted on Child Sex Charges

PHOENIX - Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced a State Grand Jury indicted Matthew Kevin Dunlap, 40, and Marisa Ann Claire, 37, on charges related to sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl.

Dunlap was indicted on 33 counts, including Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Sexual Conduct with a Minor, and Furnishing Harmful or Obscene Materials to a Minor. Claire was indicted on 4 felony counts, including Molestation of a Child, Sexual Conduct with a Minor, and Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.
