Arizona Reaches $550 Million Joint State-Federal Settlement With Suntrust To Address Mortgage Loan Origination, Servicing, and Foreclosure Abuses

Phoenix (Wednesday, June 18, 2014) -- Attorney General Tom Horne is today announcing a $550 million joint state-federal settlement with mortgage lender and servicer SunTrust Mortgage Inc. to address mortgage origination, servicing, and foreclosure abuses.

The three-year settlement provides direct payments to Arizona borrowers for past foreclosure abuses, loan modifications and other relief for borrowers in need of assistance, tough new mortgage servicing standards, and grants oversight authority to an independent monitor.

Citing federal statutes - 8 U.S.C. § 1103(a)(5) and 8 U.S.C. § 1324(a)(1)(A)(ii) - in a letter, the Department of Homeland Security has been told to stop abandoning men, women and children in Arizona.
