Terry Goddard Demands Health Net Notify Customers of Security Breach

(Phoenix, Ariz. -- Nov. 20, 2009) Attorney General Terry Goddard today called on Health Net, a Connecticut-based insurance company, to immediately notify its Arizona policyholders whose personal, medical and financial information was either lost or stolen in a data breach that occurred six months ago.

He said further that his Office will open an investigation to determine whether a state law requiring prompt notification was violated. 

Terry Goddard Offers Consumer Tips, Web Page for Holiday Shopping

(Phoenix, Ariz. - Nov. 24, 2009)  With the first big day of the holiday shopping season coming on “Black Friday,” November 27, followed by “Cyber Monday” on November 30, Attorney General Terry Goddard today offered his top five tips for holiday shoppers.

“In this time of tight budgets for most Arizona families, it is especially important to be alert to scams and other consumer pitfalls this holiday season,” Goddard said.   

Terry Goddard Announces Contest to Raise Awareness of Elder Abuse

(Phoenix, Ariz. - Nov. 23, 2009)  In an effort to make young people aware of the tragedy of elder abuse, Attorney General Terry Goddard, the Arizona Area Agencies on Aging and the Arizona Elder Abuse Coalition have partnered to sponsor the 2010 “Why Should I Care about Elder Abuse?” student arts competition.

“This is the second year we have held this competition, and it has helped increase attention to elder abuse,” said Goddard. “While my office continues to prosecute those who commit this crime, only through awareness can we stop abuse before it begins.”

Terry Goddard’s Statement on ‘Operation Stolen Hope’

(Phoenix, Ariz. - Nov. 24, 2009)  Attorney General Terry Goddard issued the following statement today on the completion of “Operation Stolen Hope,” announced earlier this afternoon in Las Vegas. This operation is the latest in a series of federal-state law enforcement sweeps targeting loan modification and foreclosure rescue scammers nationwide. It included 118 enforcement actions against alleged loan modification scammers by the FTC and 25 states, including two from Arizona.

Arizona to Host National Association of Attorneys General Winter Meeting

(Phoenix, Ariz. -- Nov. 27, 2009)  The National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) 2009 Winter Meeting will be held in Phoenix next week. Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard will be joined by Attorneys General from across the country for the three-day conference that will run Tuesday through Thursday, Dec. 1-3, at the Arizona Biltmore. 

Goddard Urges Congress to Keep State Enforcement of Consumer Protection Rules

(Phoenix, Ariz. – November 4, 2009) Attorney General Terry Goddard sent a letter to Congress today urging members to uphold the role of the states in enforcing consumer protection laws as part of the Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA). The letter offers reasons for not preempting state laws and for supporting state enforcement of new CFPA regulations.

Goddard was joined in the letter by Attorneys General from 39 other states and territories.
