Attorneys General Seek Federal Help with Polygamy-Related Crimes

(Phoenix, Ariz. – April 30, 2008) Attorney General Terry Goddard and Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff today sent a joint letter to Sen. Harry Reid, D-NV, asking his assistance in arranging a meeting with the U.S. Department of Justice to discuss how the federal government can help the states with polygamy-related investigations and prosecutions.

Terry Goddard Says Efforts to Prevent Foreclosures Still Falling Short

(Phoenix, Ariz. – April 22, 2008) Citing a new national report on subprime mortgages, Attorney General Terry Goddard today said that efforts of servicers and government officials to prevent foreclosures have increased but still fall short of the need to effectively respond to the foreclosure crisis and prevent millions of unnecessary foreclosures.

The report was issued Tuesday by the State Foreclosure Prevention Working Group, a group of state Attorneys General and banking regulators working to prevent home foreclosures. An earlier report by the group was issued two months ago.

Terry Goddard Congratulates LifeSmarts National Champions

(Phoenix, Ariz. – April 18, 2008) Attorney General Terry Goddard today congratulated the Flagstaff Home Educators team for its victory this week in the national LifeSmarts competition in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Over the course of the four-day competition, the team of Flagstaff high school students successfully answered questions about five areas of consumer knowledge important for teens. They defeated the reigning national champions from New Mexico as well as teams from Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Illinois.

Terry Goddard, Steve Owens Announce $165,000 Environmental Settlement

(Phoenix, Ariz. – April 2, 2008) Attorney General Terry Goddard and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Director Steve Owens today announced that Universal Propulsion Company (UPCO), headquartered in North Carolina, will pay $165,000 under a consent judgment to resolve 17 counts of violations of air quality and hazardous waste laws.
