Ex-Coconino County Employee Sentenced for Embezzlement

(Phoenix, Ariz. – Aug. 26, 2008) Attorney General Terry Goddard announced that Helena Jean Yazzie, 49, of Flagstaff, has been given a sentence of 60 days in jail, five years probation and $19,455 in restitution. She pleaded guilty in Coconino County Superior Court on July 25 to one count of theft, a Class 3 felony, and one count of misuse of public money, a Class 4 felony.

Between February 2005 and July 2006, Yazzie was employed by the Coconino County Public Fiduciary’s Office as a Certified Fiduciary Case Manager, responsible for managing the financial affairs of county wards.

Mesa Man Indicted for Forging Prescriptions to Buy Narcotics

(Phoenix, Ariz. – August 21, 2008) Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced that Robert Edward Dziezynski, 33, of Mesa, has been indicted on one count of fraudulent schemes and artifices, three counts of acquisition of narcotic drugs by fraud, eight counts of forgery, one count of impersonating a peace officer and two counts of theft. The charges, all felonies, relate to Dziezynski allegedly forging prescriptions to purchase narcotic drugs.

Terry Goddard Signs Historic Bi-National Agreement

(Phoenix, Ariz. — August 18, 2008) Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced an agreement with Sonoran Attorney General Abel Murrieta Gutiérrez to combat border crime through improved information sharing and investigative partnerships between Arizona and Sonora law enforcement. Goddard traveled to Hermosillo on August 15 to sign the historic agreement, which takes the form of a memorandum of understanding between the two states.

ADEQ Director Owens, AG Goddard Announce $6 Million Settlement with Honeywell Over Environmental Violations

PHOENIX (Aug. 7, 2008) -- Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Director Steve Owens and Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced that Honeywell International, Inc. (Honeywell) will pay a $5 million civil penalty for hazardous waste and environmental cleanup violations at its Phoenix airport facility, located at 111 S. 34th Street in Phoenix, and $1 million for a supplemental environmental project.
