Terry Goddard Settles with Kirby Vacuum Cleaner Distributors

(Phoenix, Ariz. – Sept. 21, 2005)  Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced a settlement agreement with Kirby Vacuum Cleaner distributors Globestar United Distribution Corporation and Dyer Resources, Inc.  Both are based in Phoenix and operate statewide. The agreement settles allegations that the defendants placed misleading and deceptive telemarketing calls to consumers, followed by aggressive, misleading and unreasonably long in-home sales presentations.

** Consumer Advisory ** Attorney General Warns Seniors About Medicare Drug Coverage Marketing

(Phoenix, Ariz. – Sept. 21, 2005)  Attorney General Terry Goddard today warned Arizona seniors about improper marketing of Part D Medicare Drug Coverage. This prescription drug plan will be added to Medicare coverage beginning in January 2006.

Goddard said some insurance agents who work for Medicare Advantage Plans are actively and aggressively recruiting new members. They are holding out the promise that if people sign up now,they will have prescription drug coverage next year, and if they don’t, they will lose their AHCCCS or lose their chance for a drug benefit. 

Attorney General’s Office, Mesa Police Department and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Break Up Drug Trafficking Organization

(Phoenix, Ariz. – September 20, 2005)  Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced a 285-count indictment against 51 members of the Mendivil-Vega Drug Trafficking Organization responsible for importing large quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana and heroin from Mexico into metro Phoenix for local and national distribution.

Flagstaff Defendants Found Guilty

(Phoenix, Ariz. – Sept. 12, 2005)  Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced the guilty verdicts of Alfredo Ortiz, 30 and Pedro Arias, 24, for the murder of Marko Winslow, 19, of Flagstaff. The Coconino County jury returned guilty verdicts September 7. The jury also found the defendants guilty of robbery and aggravated assault.
