Attorney General Terry Goddard Invites Six Western States Attorney Generals to Address the Problem of Rising Gas Prices

Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard today sent the following letter to six Western states Attorneys General inviting them to join his effort to address the problem of rising gas prices in this region. 

Included in this packet is a copy of the letter sent to U.S. Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham.

Defendants reach plea agreement in Yuma County drug trafficking case

Defendants reach plea agreement in Yuma County drug trafficking case 

(Yuma, Ariz. – March 12, 2004)  Attorney General Terry Goddard announced today three defendants responsible for the trafficking of thousands of pounds of marijuana through Yuma County pled guilty this week to possessing and/or transporting marijuana for sale.  Two of the three also pled to one count of conspiracy.  This case was scheduled to go to trial over the next four to five weeks, and was expected to be one of the longest drug trails in Yuma County history. 

Two Indicted for Selling Pirated Movies

(Phoenix, Ariz. - March 17, 2004)   Attorney General Terry Goddard announced the indictment of Joseph Hwang and Jefferson L. Rice for fraudulent schemes and artifices, computer tampering, theft and unlawful copying or sale of sounds or images from recording devices.  The indictment alleges that Hwang and Rice were selling pirated movies over eBay, an Internet auction Web site.

Walsh Named Chief Deputy Attorney General

(Phoenix, Ariz. – March 24, 2004)  Attorney General Terry Goddard has appointed James P. Walsh as the new Chief Deputy Attorney General.  Walsh recently served as the Chief Assistant Attorney General, and also served as the Antitrust Unit Chief and Special Counsel to the Attorney General.

Prior to joining the Attorney General’s office in June 2003, Walsh was a solo practitioner concentrating on legislative representation, governmental relations and alternative dispute resolution.

Attorney General Goddard to Present $5000 Grant Award to Women's Foundation of Southern Arizona

Terry Goddard will present a $5,000 grant award to the Women’s Foundation of Southern Arizona on Thursday, April 1 at their annual luncheon.  This grant represents remaining escrow funds from Arizona’s share of a multi-state antitrust (resale price fixing) settlement with Nine West, that involved Attorneys General for the 50 states and the District of Colombia.
