(Phoenix, Ariz. – Nov. 2, 2010) Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced the indictment of Robert Green, 37, of Phoenix, on multiple charges that include fraud, theft, forgery and perjury for actions he took during his Arizona Senate primary campaign.
Robert “Bob” Green was a Republican primary candidate for the State Senate in District 7 and was defeated. The indictment alleges that from 2009 through July of this year, Green committed fraud on the Arizona Clean Elections Fund by submitting false documents to the fund in an attempt to illegally collect more than $21,000 in funds for his campaign.
In the documents, Green allegedly lied about receiving qualifying contributions, which are necessary to make a candidate eligible to receive funds from the Arizona Clean Elections Fund. He is also accused of knowingly accepting contributions in the name of one person when made by another.
When Green was asked about these contributions during an administrative hearing, Green made allegedly false representations regarding the contributions in an effort to cover up the violations.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Todd Lawson.
