TUCSON – Attorney General Kris Mayes announced the sentencing of Michael Woolbright to 5 years in prison, followed by 30 years on probation. The Attorney General’s Office prosecutors also secured $520,000 in ordered restitution.
“My office will continue to stamp out fraud across Arizona and prosecute these crimes. If you are an individual or an entity attempting to defraud Arizonans from their hard-earned savings—consider this a warning,” said Attorney General Mayes.
Woolbright was sentenced for his guilty conviction on five counts of Fraudulent Schemes and Artifices and one count of Theft for stealing over $500,000 from the Tucson Delta Chi Alumni Board, an entity which holds title to a fraternity chapter house located on the University of Arizona campus. Woolbright controlled the Board’s bank account, edged out the Board’s accountant, did not update other board members, and wrote unauthorized checks to himself and his businesses totaling over $500,000.
The case was investigated by the Attorney General's Office Special Investigation Section and prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Matthew Ashton.
