Oliver Joins Attorney General's Office

(Phoenix, Ariz. – June 10, 2004)  Jerry A. Oliver, Sr., former Detroit Police Chief and Phoenix Assistant Police Chief, joined the Attorney General’s Office this week.  Oliver, recognized as one of the country’s leaders in law enforcement and an advocate for policing reform, will serve as Special Advisor to the Attorney General on matters concerning public safety.

In addition to his time in Detroit, Oliver also served as the Pasadena Police Chief in California and the Richmond Police Chief in Virginia.  During his tenure in Richmond, Oliver helped start Richmond’s Project Exile, a nationally acclaimed program that targeted gun and drug violence.  This program was credited by the White House with reducing the murder rate in Richmond by 60 percent in three years.  This program is now a model for other cities around the country to reduce gun and drug violence.

Oliver holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Arizona State University.  He is also a member of the FBI’s 21st National Executive Institute.
