Man Sentenced to Prison in Human Smuggling Case

(Phoenix, Ariz. – July 31, 2006) Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced that Jesus Noel Ramirez-Alvarado, also known as Adolfo “Cholo” Ramirez, 38, was sentenced today to one-and-a-half years in prison after pleading guilty last month to attempted human smuggling, a Class 5 felony. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $2,700.

Ramirez, a Mexican national, was part of an organization that provided transportation and shelter to undocumented immigrants in exchange for money last year in the Tucson area. The case was part of an ongoing investigation conducted by the Financial Crimes Task Force.

Assistant Attorney General Paul Eckerstrom prosecuted this case. Ramirez-Alvarado was sentenced in Pima County Superior Court by Judge Howard Fell.
