Goodyear Man Sentenced to 23.5 Years in Prison for Sexual Exploitation of 11-Year-Old Girl

PHOENIX – Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced 35-year-old Derek Scott Rodriguez, of Goodyear, was sentenced to a total of 23.5 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections. Judge Erin Otis, of the Maricopa County Superior Court, handed down the sentence after Rodriguez pleaded guilty in January 2019, to two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor.

The charges arise out of an investigation that revealed in 2017 Rodriguez took sexually explicit photographs of an 11-year-old girl from Goodyear while she was a guest in his home. The victim disclosed to her family the same day that the photographs had been taken by Rodriguez. Further investigation discovered additional images of sexually exploited children that were downloaded from the internet on his home computer.

Rodriguez will be placed on supervised lifetime probation and will register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.

Goodyear Police investigated the case.

Assistant Attorney General Blaine Gadow prosecuted the case.
