Chandler Police Officer Indicted on 10 Counts

(Phoenix, Ariz. – Dec. 12, 2006) Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced the 10count indictment of Bradley T. Forward, an officer with the Chandler Police Department. He is accused of one count of hindering prosecution, two counts of stealing, destroying, altering or secreting public records, three counts of computer tampering and four counts of unauthorized access to criminal history. All of the charges are felonies.

Forward, 30, of Gilbert, has been a Chandler Police Officer for seven years.

The State Grand Jury handed down the indictment this afternoon. It alleges that Forward falsely represented that the Chandler Police Department was investigating Edward Purvis to obtain confidential investigative materials from the Arizona Corporation Commission. The indictment alleges that Forward provided portions of the confidential information to Purvis and Gregg Wolfe. Purvis and Wolfe, both of Chandler, are principals in the Nakami Chi Group Ministries International. The Arizona Corporation Commission initiated proceedings against the two men in October.

The indictment also alleges that Forward used his position with the Chandler Police Department to access criminal history and background information on three different individuals and provided that information to Purvis and Wolfe. The indictment’s computer tampering charges are related to Forward’s access of this confidential information.

“These unauthorized uses of confidential public safety information are serious crimes,” Goddard said. “The abuse of a position of public trust cannot be tolerated.”

Forward will be arraigned on Dec. 26. If convicted of all charges, he faces up to 12 years in prison. Assistant Attorney General Kelly O’Connor is prosecuting this case.
