Attorney General Tom Horne Kicks Off National Consumer Protection Week

Phoenix, AZ (Monday, March 3, 2014) -- Attorney General Tom Horne is today kicking off the start of National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW) with the launch of a new user-friendly website design to help Arizona consumers avoid falling victim to scams and deceptive business practices. The website, which can be found at www.azag.gov(link is external), features a wide variety of topics on consumer issues, online complaint form, and links to other consumer resources.

Visitors to the website can find information about the latest scams and rip-offs, read and download informational brochures with consumer protection tips and file consumer complaints online. Consumers can access the website at www.azag.gov.

“Our new website design provides consumers with easy, accessible information and allows them to get the help and information they need to be smart consumers,” Attorney General Horne noted.

Horne’s office handles thousands of complaints annually. In 2013, the Office was able to recover more than $9.5 million on behalf of consumers. Horne encourages people who have been victims of deceptive or unfair practices to file complaints with his office.

“Consumer complaints help us identify ongoing trends and new scams,” said Horne. “That information is vital to our consumer protection enforcement actions.”

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office has joined with other state and federal organizations to promote NCPW, a coordinated national effort that encourages consumers to take full advantage of their rights and make better informed decisions. Press announcements are planned throughout the week in Arizona that address mail and telemarketing scams, automotive fraud, protecting your personal finances, and a poster contest to engage youth in issues that affect one of the most vulnerable populations - seniors.
