Attorney General Mayes Announces Sentence for Man who Committed Arson to Collect Insurance Money

PHOENIX – Attorney General Kris Mayes today announced the sentencing of an individual who committed arson in order to collect an insurance payout. Mohamed Abdelrahman was sentenced last week to four years of supervised probation and six months jail. Abdelrahman pled guilty to Arson of a Structure.

On November 1, 2017, Abdelrahman committed arson of a commercial building he leased. He then attempted to receive payouts from multiple insurance companies for the fire. Abdelrahman has also been ordered to pay restitution for the property damage that was caused, exceeding $560,000. The investigation in this case was conducted by the Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions and Phoenix Police Department.
