AG Tom Horne Announces Conviction of Alejandro Castro-Vega

PHOENIX (April 9, 2012) Attorney General Tom Horne today announced that Alejandro Castro-Vega was sentenced today to the maximum of 10 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections for his involvement operating a methamphetamine distribution ring in the Phoenix metro area.

“One of the most effective ways to combat these drug traffickers is for law enforcement to remain constantly on the alert to find ways to identify and prosecute the people bringing these drugs into the U.S. This case is another excellent example of great cooperation between police and prosecutors,” Horne said.

He added, “The Drug Enforcement Agency and Tempe Police Department worked very hard to investigate the leads in this case and I thank them for their diligence. As always, my office will continue to prosecute these cases vigorously, and not let up in our efforts to combat these drug traffickers.”

Over the course of the 10 month long investigation conducted by detectives with the Tempe Police and special agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Castro-Vega was responsible for receiving hundreds of pounds of methamphetamine from unknown persons in Mexico which he then distributed to customers within the valley.
