Washington, D.C. – Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich will join congressional lawmakers on Friday to talk about H.J. Res. 50, a joint resolution affirming the unilateral authority of states to protect their sovereign borders when the federal government fails to do so.
General Brnovich will join Texas Rep. Jodey Arrington, who introduced H.J. Res. 50. The resolution recognizes, "Article I, Section 10 of the United States Constitution explicitly reserves to the States the sovereign power to repel an invasion and defend their citizenry from the overwhelming and 'imminent danger' posed by paramilitary, narco-terrorist cartels who have seized control of our southern border.”
“The states created the federal government and not the other way around,” said Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich. “The Constitution clearly recognizes that the states have a compelling interest and authority to defend themselves from invasions like we are now experiencing, as cartels have seized control of our southern border. I appreciate Congressman Arrington’s collaboration and leadership in this fight to uphold the rule of law and look forward to working closely with him and other members of Congress to help secure our border.”
General Brnovich was the first public official in the country to determine the current crisis at Arizona's southern border, fueled by violence and lawlessness of cartels and gangs, legally qualifies as an invasion. Recently, he also sent a letter to Governor Ducey asking him to make the official declaration on behalf of Arizona.
