In an effort to make young people aware of the tragedy of elder abuse, the Attorney General's office, the Arizona Elder Abuse Coalition and Free Arts of Arizona have partnered in the 2009 "Why Should I Care About Elder Abuse?" Student Arts Competition.
High School Juniors throughout Arizona were invited to write an original poem or essay, or to create an original artwork illustrating the "Why Should I Care About Elder Abuse?" message for use on a poster that will be distributed as part of a statewide Elder Abuse Awareness campaign.
Contest winners received first, second and third place prizes of $500, $250 and $100, donated by Wells Fargo. The poster printing was donated by APS.
