(Phoenix, Ariz. – June 18, 2009) Attorney General Terry Goddard, joined by 10 leading law enforcement officials, today voiced strong opposition to a proposal that would significantly loosen Arizona’s gun laws by allowing gun owners to carry a concealed weapon without obtaining a permit.
(Phoenix, Ariz. – June 19, 2009) Attorney General Terry Goddard today received pledges of greater federal cooperation in the fight against border violence and drug cartels from senior officials of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security during a meeting in Phoenix.
Goddard met with several Homeland Security officials, including Alan Bersin, Assistant Secretary for International Affairs and Special Representative for Border Affairs, and John Morton, Assistant Secretary for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
(Phoenix, Ariz. – June 23, 2009) Attorney General Terry Goddard, along with 40 other state Attorneys General, today announced a $9.75 million nationwide settlement with TJX Companies, Inc. (TJX), which owns retailers TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, A.J. Wright and Marshalls stores.
The agreement concerns a massive data breach that placed thousands of TJX’s consumers’ personal data at risk. The victims of the breach included 600 Arizonans.
(Phoenix, Ariz. – June 25, 2009) Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced a record $1,375,000 settlement with Central Coast Nutraceuticals, Inc. (“CCN”) and its owner, Graham Gibson, of Phoenix. The settlement resolves a consumer fraud lawsuit that alleged deceptive online sales practices by CCN.
Under the terms of today’s settlement, which takes the form of a Consent Judgment, CCN will pay $1 million in civil penalties to the state, $350,000 in consumer restitution and $25,000 to cover the state’s legal and investigative costs.
(Phoenix, Ariz. – June 25, 2009) Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced that Tim Nelson will be joining the Attorney General’s Office as its Chief Deputy Attorney General. In this capacity, he will oversee the Office’s legal divisions, including criminal prosecutions, consumer fraud litigation and advice to state agencies.
