Terry Goddard to Take Part in Four Tucson Events

(Phoenix, Ariz. – May 14, 2007) Attorney General Terry Goddard will take part in several events in Tucson on Wednesday, May 16. They include:

Tucson Peace Officers Memorial Service

Goddard will join Tucson Police Chief Richard Miranda and other city leaders at the annual Tucson Peace Officers Memorial Service beginning at 9 a.m. The service will be held at the Tucson Peace Officers Memorial located in front of the Tucson Police Department, 270 S. Stone Avenue. The families of the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice will be recognized and honored. The service will include an honor guard and a

helicopter flyover.

Seniors Strike Back  

Goddard will be at the Sam Lena-South Tucson Branch Library, 1607 S. Sixth Ave., at

10:30 a.m. to visit with volunteers who are helping to collect junk mail.

“Seniors Strike Back” is an operation that enlisted senior volunteers from throughout Arizona to save their junk mail during the month of April. In honor of Older Americans Month, the Attorney General’s Office will collect and sort the mail and then take legal actions against people or companies that violate Arizona’s consumer protection laws.

Tucson Rotary Club Address

Goddard will be the featured speaker at the Tucson Rotary Club’s weekly meeting at the Doubletree Hotel, 445 S. Alvernon Way. Goddard will talk about consumer protection issues facing Tucson residents.

Predatory Lending and Borrowers’ Scams Community Workshop

Goddard will speak to participants of a community workshop addressing predatory lending and borrowers’ scams at 1:30 p.m. at Temple Emanu-El, 225 N. Country Club. The workshop will focus on alternatives and strategies to combat predatory lending practices in Arizona. The workshop is being sponsored by a coalition of community and government organizations serving Southern Arizona.
