Terry Goddard Receives Award for Helping Disabled Employees

(Phoenix, Ariz. – July 26, 2006) Attorney General Terry Goddard today was presented an award recognizing his office’s efforts in advocating for and employing persons with disabilities. The Hon. John R. Sticht Excellence in Disabilities Accessibility Award was presented at the Americans with Disabilities Act anniversary celebration held at the State Capitol.

In presenting the award, the committee recognized the Attorney General’s Office for its “efforts through its employment practices to improve access to Arizona’s judicial system for persons with disabilities.”

“I’m honored the committee recognized my office’s efforts in supporting and promoting our employees with disabilities,” Goddard said. “Unfortunately, my office continues to see cases of discrimination against people with disabilities. We have redoubled our commitment to fighting for the rights of the disabled.”

The celebration marked the 16th anniversary of the signing of the ADA, a law that has improved the lives of countless Arizonans with disabilities. The ADA has increased access to polling places, government services and programs, transportation, public places and communication technology.

The award was presented by the Arizona State Bar Association Committee on Persons with Disabilities in the Legal Profession.
