Terry Goddard to Receive Public Leadership Award

(Phoenix, Ariz. – Oct. 17, 2007) Attorney General Terry Goddard will receive the Jacque Steiner Public Leadership Award for Children from the Children’s Action Alliance at the organization’s ninth annual Through the Eyes of a Child Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 20. The dinner will be held at the Scottsdale Resort & Conference Center beginning at 6 p.m.

The Jacque Steiner Public Leadership Award for Children honors public officials whose leadership improves public policy for children in Arizona. Goddard will receive the award in recognition of his leading the fight against methamphetamines, protecting children from cybercrime and standing up for young victims of abuse in Colorado City and throughout Arizona.

The award honors the late Arizona Senator Jacque Steiner. She was a tireless champion for vulnerable children who were victims of homelessness, abuse and neglect. She led efforts to improve services for children in foster care and to find more beds for homeless children. She died in 2003.

“I am deeply honored to receive the Jacque Steiner award,” Goddard said. “Jacque set the bar on efforts to help children, and I hope that the efforts of my Office to protect children meet her high standards.”

Also being honored at this dinner is Tom Browning, President and CEO of Greater Phoenix Leadership, a group of civic and business leaders. Browning will receive the Horace Steel Child Advocacy award in recognition of his courageous work improving the lives of Arizona children and families.
