Terry Goddard Endorses Wireless Truth in Billing Legislation, Joins Arizona Corporation Commission

(Phoenix, Ariz. – January 31, 2005)  Attorney General Terry Goddard today called on the Arizona State Legislature to adopt SB1213, the Truth in Billing legislation for wireless cellular service providers.

The legislation, sponsored by Senators Gabrielle Giffords and John Huppenthal, provides the Arizona Corporation Commission with the authority to assist consumers in resolving billing complaints with wireless telecommunications providers.

“This is a matter of protecting consumers against unwanted charges on their wireless phone bills commonly known as cramming,” Goddard said. "There are protections in place for Arizona consumers with land line phones, but do not exist for wireless service providers.”

The legislation would allow the Arizona Corporation Commission to establish rules protecting consumers from having their wireless provider changed or having unwanted services added to their wireless services without their knowledge.
