Terry Goddard to Discuss Internet Safety with Orangedale 8th Graders

(Phoenix, Ariz. – March 2, 2008)  Attorney General Terry Goddard will visit Orangedale Junior High Preparatory Academy on Friday, March 6, to discuss Internet safety with some 200 eighth graders at the school.

Topics will include avoiding Internet predators, cyberbullying, staying safe on social networking sites and protecting personal information. This event is part of Goddard’s ongoing Internet Safety School Tour. Since 2005, the Attorney General and his staff have met with thousands of students across Arizona to discuss how to use the Internet safely.

Goddard encourages parents to talk with their kids about Internet safety and recommends the following simple rules:

  • Never arrange a face-to-face meeting with someone you met online.
  • Never upload or post pictures of yourself onto the Internet or give them to people you do not know.
  • Never give out identifying information such as your name, home address, school name or telephone number.
  • Never download pictures from an unknown source, as there is a good chance these can be sexually explicit images.
  • Never respond to messages or bulletin board postings that are suggestive, obscene, belligerent or harassing.
