Suspect Arrested for Impersonating NFL Football Player

(Phoenix, Ariz. – May 14, 2004)  Attorney General Terry Goddard announced the arrest this week of Darryl Brandon Nolan for attempting to impersonate NFL San Francisco 49ers player Brandon Whiting.

Nolan attempted to purchase two homes in the Valley using Whiting’s identity, and signing several documents related to these transactions.  These charges are the result of a week-long joint investigation with the Attorney General’s Office and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, ending with Nolan’s arrest this week.

The charges filed against Nolan include Attempted Fraudulent Schemes and Artifices, Taking the Identity of Another and three counts of Forgery.  An additional charge of Unsworn Falsification was filed after allegedly Nolan intentionally misidentified himself to a Maricopa County Superior Court Hearing Officer during his initial appearance.  At that appearance, Nolan gave the name and date of birth of his father.

If convicted of all charges, Nolan could face up to 20 years in prison.  Assistant Attorney General Todd Lawson is prosecuting this case.
