Man Convicted on Fake Documents Charges

(Phoenix, Ariz. – Oct. 9, 2007) Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced that Jose Angel Diaz-Quintero, 44, has been convicted on charges related to producing and selling fake Social Security and Permanent Resident cards.

During the three-day trial in Pima County Superior Court, evidence showed that Diaz-Quintero sold multiple fake documents to undercover investigators from the Arizona Fraudulent Identification Task Force. The undercover operation took place in June 2006.

His co-defendant, Juan Antonio Garcia-Armenta, 40, pleaded guilty to two counts of forgery and was sentenced last month to 90 days in jail and four years probation.

Pima County Superior Court Judge Barbara Sattler will sentence Diaz-Quintero upon his arrest. He faces up to 40 years in prison. The prosecutors handling this case are Special Assistant Attorney General Gabriel J. Chin, who is a professor at the University of Arizona Rogers College of Law, and University of Arizona law students Karen E. Komrada and Gregory D. Gills, Jr., who appeared pursuant to special Arizona Supreme Court rules.
