Horne Announces Prison Time For Woman Who Stole From Health Care Provider

PHOENIX (Thursday, October 20, 2011) -- Attorney General Tom Horne, in conjunction with the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, today announced that Carol Lynette Curie was sentenced to two and a half years in the Arizona Department of Corrections on one count of Theft.

Between March, 2008 and February, 2010, Curie committed theft totaling over $116,400.00 while employed as the Chief Financial Officer for Metro Care Services, which is owned by The Tungland Company and specializes in providing non-medical health care for developmentally disabled individuals.

Curie wrote unauthorized checks to herself depositing them to her personal bank account.

Curie also wrote checks to herself as if she were a certified care giver and providing care giving services but never did.

She also used the names of former or inactive contract caregivers to create the appearance of legitimate payments to these caregivers and then electronically transferring the funds to her personal account.

This case was referred to and was prosecuted by the Arizona Attorney General’s Office Health Care Fraud and Abuse Section of the Criminal Division.
