Goddard Testifies on Border Violence before U.S. Senate Hearing in Phoenix

(Phoenix, Ariz. – April 20, 2009) Attorney General Terry Goddard testified before a field hearing of the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) today at Phoenix City Hall. 

Goddard was invited by Committee Chairman Sen. Joseph Lieberman to testify at today’s hearing entitled, “Southern Border Violence: State and Local Perspectives.”  

Goddard discussed the public safety threat to Arizona posed by cross-border smuggling of narcotics, human cargo, weapons and cash, as well as steps Congress can take to help federal, state and local law enforcement better protect Arizonans from cartel violence. Other panelists at the hearing included Governor Jan Brewer and Tohono O'odham Nation Chairman Ned Norris, Jr.
