PHOENIX – Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced his office has obtained a consent judgment against the Center for COVID Control, LLC (CCC), its owner Aleya Siyaj, and her husband Akbar Syed. The company is an Illinois-based service provider that worked with Doctors Clinical Laboratory (DCL) and testing sites throughout the country, including six independently owned sites in Arizona, to provide free COVID testing for consumers.
“It is important for Arizonans to receive timely and accurate medical testing, particularly for the COVID-19 virus,” said Attorney General Brnovich. “If companies cannot provide the services they advertise, then they should not be offered.”
The Attorney General’s Office alleged CCC advertised consumers would receive RT-PCR test results within 48 hours and rapid antigen test results within 15 minutes. Many Arizona consumers did not receive results within this timeframe, and some never received results. Additionally, CCC employees at its Illinois call center told Arizona consumers that their test results were inconclusive when those tests had not been run, and in some cases, were never run.
The judgment permanently prohibits CCC, Siyaj, and Syed from performing medical testing services in Arizona, including performing marketing, data management, medical sample handling, compliance and training, and customer service for medical testing services. This is the strongest injunctive relief available under the Arizona Consumer Fraud Act.
CCC is also required to pay $20,000 in restitution to Arizona consumers. Any Arizona consumers who believe they have been harmed by CCC’s conduct should file a complaint here by October 31, 2022, to be considered for restitution.
