Four Suspects Indicted for Selling False IDs

(Phoenix, Ariz. – Oct. 27, 2005)  Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced the indictments of four suspects charged with selling false identifications.  

Julio Leyva Nava, 18; Uriel Arce Nava, 22; and Manuel Enriquez Zazueta, 18, all of Phoenix, were indicted on charges related to selling false identifications. The grand jury handed down the following charges on Oct. 18:

  • Leyva Nava was indicted on charges of illegally conducting an enterprise, trafficking in the identity of another and forgery.
  • Arce Nava was indicted on charges of illegally conducting an enterprise and attempted forgery.
  • Zazueta was indicted on charges of illegally conducting an enterprise, trafficking in the identity of another and forgery.
  • A fourth suspect was indicted on one count of illegally conducting an enterprise, but has not been served.

Leyva Nava, Arce Nava and Zazueta allegedly participated in an organization called “Calentano” that offered forged documents for sale. The defendants allegedly sold false Arizona Drivers’ licenses, immigration documents, and Social Security cards to undercover officers between Sept. 27 and Oct. 7.

This indictment is the result of ongoing efforts by the Governor’s ID Theft Task Force, comprised of state, federal and local law enforcement agencies to combat human smuggling. The false documents can be used to facilitate human smuggling, identity theft and related crimes.

The defendants will be arraigned in Maricopa County Superior Court on Oct. 28. Assistant Attorney General Todd Lawson is prosecuting these cases.
