Former DPS Officer Indicted on Bribery Charge

(Phoenix, Ariz. – June 4, 2007) Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced the indictment of former Department of Public Safety Officer Chris Young, 28, of Williams, Arizona, on one count of bribery of a public servant, a felony charge.

According to court documents, in April 2006, Young stopped Kyle Parcell, of Temecula, Calif., for speeding on Interstate 40 in Yavapai County. During the traffic stop, Young asked the passenger in the vehicle, Myrla Ryan Brock, to expose herself to him with an agreement or understanding that Young’s opinion, judgment, exercise of discretion or other action as a police officer might be influenced.

Young, a nine-year veteran with DPS, resigned from his position in November 2006. He faces a maximum of 3.75 years in prison if convicted of the offense. He is scheduled to appear in the Yavapai County Superior Court on Tuesday, June 5. Assistant Attorney General Paul Ahler is prosecuting this case.
