Flu Vaccine Information

(Phoenix, Ariz. – October 14, 2004)  The Arizona Attorney General’s Office recommends Arizona residents and health care providers look out for price gouging related to the flu vaccine.  Residents should contact the Attorney General’s Office and file a complaint with the Consumer Information and Complaints Unit at 602-542-5763 or visit the Web site at www.azag.gov.

The Arizona Department of Health Services is recommending that physicians and other medical providers target their supplies of the influenza vaccine to people with the highest risk of suffering complications from the flu:

  • adults over age 65, 
  • all children ages 6 months through 23 months, 
  • persons age 2-64 with chronic health conditions, such as heart and lung diseases and asthma and diabetes, and people with weakened immune systems, 
  • all women pregnant during flu season, 
  • residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities, 
  • children age 6 months to 18 years on chronic aspirin therapy,
  • health-care workers with direct patient care, and 
  • out-of-home caregivers and household contacts of children under 6 months
