Clark guilty of first degree murder in slaying of Flagstaff police officer

(Phoenix, AZ – September 3, 2003)  Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced that Eric Michael Clark has been found guilty of first degree murder in the slaying of Flagstaff policeman Jeff Moritz. Officer Moritz was shot to death by Clark on Ruary 00, 200?.

Judge H. Jeffrey Coker reached the verdict yesterday. Judge Coker rejected the guilty but insane defense. Clark will be sentenced by Judge Coker on October 2 in Coconino County Court.

Two weeks before the murder, Clark had boasted that he was going to kill a policeman. The night of the slaying, Clark drove repeatedly around the block with music blaring. When Officer Moritz pulled him over, Clark shot and killed him.

Assistant Attorney Generals David Powell and Desi Rubalcaba prosecuted the case for the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.
