Attorneys General from U.S. and Mexico Will Discuss Border Issues

(Phoenix, Ariz. - August 24, 2005)  Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard will host attorneys general from the 10 Border States in the U.S. and Mexico to the 22nd Annual Border Attorneys General Conference September 7 through 9.

The six Mexican and four American Border States will participate in the three-day meeting through their top law enforcement officials. Federal and local law enforcement officials who work on border issues will also participate.

Immigration and border security issues will dominate the Conference agenda. Session topics include auto theft, human smuggling, violence against women, and cross-border child abductions.

This Attorneys General Conference began more than 20 years ago in an effort to discuss mutual law enforcement concerns facing Mexican and American Border States. This two decade relationship has fostered a productive ongoing dialogue and enhanced cross-border cooperation. Arizona last hosted this Conference in 1992.

The Conference will take place at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort on the Gila Indian Reservation beginning Wednesday, Sept. 7. A copy of the program and the biographies of the Attorneys General attending the conference are attached.

The sessions will be closed to the media, but interviews with the participants can be arranged.  Please contact Andrea Esquer, press secretary to Attorney General Goddard, for more information.

A press conference will be held on Friday, Sept. 9, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass, Coyote Room.
