Attorney General Terry Goddard will join other state and local officials to recognize October 2004 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month

(Phoenix, Ariz. – October 20, 2004)  Attorney General Terry Goddard will join other state and local officials to recognize October 2004 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Goddard will announce efforts to bring the CUT IT OUT Program to Arizona.   CUT IT OUT is a nationally recognized program with the goal of bringing awareness about domestic violence to cosmetologists nationwide.

“This is a program that has seen positive results in other states,” Goddard said. “By bringing CUT IT OUT to Arizona, we will identify more domestic violence victims, increase awareness of domestic violence services and reduce the number of victims.”

The CUT IT OUT program was founded in 2002 in Alabama by the Women's Fund of Greater Birmingham and the Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Today, it is operated nationally by the Salons Against Domestic Abuse Fund, a partnership of Clairol Professional, the National Cosmetology Association, and Southern Living At home. Since the program was expanded to a national level in July 2003, more than 1,000 cosmetologists have attended training sessions throughout 11 states.

Attorney General Goddard is working to identify partners for this program that include domestic violence agencies and salon professionals.
