TUCSON - Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced the State Grand Jury has indicted Rosa Maria Ordonez, the former finance manager for the Tucson Unified School District’s Pueblo High School bookstore, on two counts of Theft and one felony violation of Duties and Liabilities of Custodian of Public Monies.
The school district entrusted Ordonez with cash to make change at school sporting events and in the bookstore. She was also tasked with receiving payments from Pueblo students, parents, and donors for various school-related purposes. The indictment alleges that Ordonez failed to deposit cash that she received between June and August 2018.
In August 2018, Ordonez allegedly stopped reporting for work, ultimately resigning in September 2018 without returning the District funds or placing them into the bookstore safe.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
This case was investigated by the Office of the Auditor General and is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Lindsay St. John.
