Assistant Attorney General Julia Smock Honored for Pro Bono Work

(Phoenix, Ariz. – May 15, 2008) Attorney General Terry Goddard today congratulated Assistant Attorney General Julia Smock for being a recipient of the Public Attorney Team of the Year award, which honors her exceptional pro bono service.

Smock was presented the award during a dinner hosted by the Volunteer Lawyers Program Advisory Committee last month in Phoenix. This year’s theme, “For Love of Justice,” recognized outstanding achievements in pro bono work for 2007.

Since 1995, Smock has volunteered for the Volunteer Lawyer Program, conducting case in-take interviews and writing summaries of legal issues. She also helped Community Legal Services establish a satellite location in the West Valley. The VLP is honoring Smock for more than a decade of service to the program.

Smock joined the Attorney General’s office in 1980 and currently is an Assistant Attorney General in the Child Support Enforcement Section. She has served in this capacity since 1987 as both a line attorney and manager. Smock is also a member of the Attorney General’s Open Meeting Law Enforcement Team, and she conducts training sessions in Family Law and the Open Meeting Law.
