AG Horne and U.S. Armed Forces Host Document "Shred-a-Thon" To Help Fight Identity Theft

PHOENIX (Tuesday, September 11, 2012) -- Attorney General Tom Horne and Arizona-based members of the U.S military are announcing a series of “Shred-A-Thon” events throughout the Phoenix area in September.

From September 17 – 21, anyone who has personal documents to be shredded may drop off those documents at military recruiting stations Valley-wide during normal business hours. On September 22nd, the Arizona National Guard will begin a massive shredding operation at the Guard base at 5636 E. McDowell Rd.

“Identity theft is proliferating at an alarming rate, and thieves find a veritable treasure trove of personal information when documents are simply thrown away,” Horne said. “It is important for everyone to protect themselves and make it much more difficult for thieves to discover personal phone numbers, bank information, Social Security identification and other personal data. Shredding documents that are no longer needed is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your family from identity theft.”

These recruiting stations will begin accepting documents starting September 17th:
