Holiday Scams Consumer Alert

PHOENIX (Wednesday, December 21, 2011) -- As the holiday approaches, many consumers may feel the need to obtain extra money from resources such as online payday lenders. Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne warns consumers that payday loans are illegal in the state of Arizona, including the solicitation of online loans to consumers in the state of Arizona, and warns consumers to be alert of collection calls scams relating to outstanding payday loans.

Horne Applauds New State Law That Offers More Seniors More Protection From Telephone Scams

PHOENIX (Tuesday, April 10, 2012)  --  Attorney General Tom Horne says a newly-signed state law will offer seniors more protection from a proliferating number of new telephone solicitation scams.  Consumers have lost millions of dollars to con artists who promise to establish work-at-home businesses promising consumers substantial incomes.  When the money does not materialize, consumers are left with empty bank accounts or large credit card bills.

AG Horne Issues National Mortgage Settlement Consumer Alert to Arizonans

PHOENIX (Tuesday, April 24, 2012) -- As the National Mortgage Settlement between Arizona and 48 other states, the federal government, and the country's five largest residential mortgage loan servicers goes into effect, Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne is alerting Arizona consumers looking for mortgage relief to beware of scam artists. 

Consumer Alert: Attorney General Horne Warns Small Business Owners to Beware of Bogus Invoice for Telecom Warranty Maintenance Agreement

(Phoenix, Ariz. — July 11, 2012) -- Attorney General Tom Horne is warning Arizona small business owners to be wary of an official-looking Invoice for what is described as a warranty covering “Telecom Maintenance”. This invoice appears to be an attempt to scam small business owners into believing they need to pay for services that they never purchased. 

Consumer Alert: Hollywood Video and Movie Gallery Collection Efforts

PHOENIX (Friday, August 10, 2012) -- The efforts to collect on consumer debts reportedly owed to Hollywood Video and Movie Gallery for late fees or non-return of videos are the subject of a new Consumer Alert issued today by Attorney General Tom Horne. 

Horne said, “My office has recently been getting a number of consumer inquiries about how Hollywood Video and Movie Gallery are going about the collection of supposed debts. Some consumers have been confused because they did not rent a video nor are responsible for late fees.” 

AG Horne and U.S. Armed Forces Host Document "Shred-a-Thon" To Help Fight Identity Theft

PHOENIX (Tuesday, September 11, 2012) -- Attorney General Tom Horne and Arizona-based members of the U.S military are announcing a series of “Shred-A-Thon” events throughout the Phoenix area in September. 

From September 17 – 21, anyone who has personal documents to be shredded may drop off those documents at military recruiting stations Valley-wide during normal business hours. On September 22nd, the Arizona National Guard will begin a massive shredding operation at the Guard base at 5636 E. McDowell Rd.
