Phoenix – Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced today AG Special Agents arrested a former bookstore manager at Tolleson Union High School. 56-year-old Brenda Lynn Busse is accused of stealing more than $120,000 from the TUHS bookstore. A State Grand Jury indicted Busse on one count of Fraudulent Schemes and Artifices, Theft, and Misuse of Public Monies.
From July 2007 to June 2011, Busse allegedly stole cash payments made to the TUHS bookstore by parents, students, and other individuals for various fees and extracurricular activities. Busse allegedly manipulated computer dates to conceal the theft. The money should have been deposited into TUHS District accounts. The investigation started when district officials noticed irregularities in TUHS bookstore revenue records and notified the Arizona Office of the Auditor General and the Attorney General's Office.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Joseph Waters.
All defendants are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
