Position Summary: 

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office State Government Division, Education and Health Section, is seeking an Assistant Attorney General.  Attorneys in the Health Unit represent the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and the Arizona Commission for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing (ACDHH) in administrative hearings, settlement conferences, and litigation matters at every level of state and federal court; provide written and verbal legal advice; review contracts and proposed administrative rules and policies; and provide other legal services as needed.

This attorney will have primary responsibility for:

         • Representing the State in litigation matters pertaining to the civil commitment of sexually violent persons (SVP),

         • Representing and advising the Arizona Community Protection and Treatment Center (ACPTC) and its SVP Program in all legal matters (including informal settlement conferences and civil litigation), and

         • Representing and advising ACDHH in all legal matters, which includes ACDHH's public meetings, administrative hearings, informal settlement conferences, and civil litigation.


This attorney will also back up other Health Unit attorneys on hearings and legal matters pertaining to the Arizona State Hospital and civil and forensic mental health commitments.  In addition to these main responsibilities, it is anticipated that this attorney will represent the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) in other litigation and administrative matters as they arise and provide advice and other legal services to additional ADHS programs.  Regular attendance is required.
