The Arizona Attorney General’s Office State Government Division/Environmental Enforcement Section is seeking an Assistant Attorney General. The attorney will represent the agency client, Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (“ADEQ”). Position provides legal services to ADEQ in the areas of environmental law with an emphasis in the Water Quality Assurance Revolving Fund ("WQARF") Program and Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act ("CERCLA"). Position duties may include providing additional legal services to ADEQ in programs for the regulation of hazardous waste, water quality, solid waste, air quality, and underground storage tanks ("UST"). The attorney will render legal advice on environmental law to the client agency and will interpret state and federal environmental statutes, rules and regulations. The attorney will also represent the State of Arizona and ADEQ in cases involving environmental enforcement and cases requiring the defense of agency decisions under environmental laws. The attorney's duties include preparing cases for litigation and trying complex environmental cases in federal and state civil court and administrative appeals, as necessary. Requires minimal travel and regular attendance.
