Goodyear Woman Indicted for Embezzling Half-Million Dollars
(Phoenix, Ariz. – Sept. 10, 2010) Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced the indictment of Julie Ann Blennis, 40, of Goodyear on 15 felony counts for embezzling nearly a half-million dollars from her former employer, Phoenix-based Freeport- McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.
According to the indictment, Blennis is alleged to have forged a form to enter a fictitious vendor into her employer's accounting system, and then submitted numerous counterfeit documents including false reimbursement forms and invoices over a two-and-a-half year period to obtain nearly a half-million dollars. The charges include fraudulent schemes and artifices, theft, forgery and computer tampering, all are felonies.
Public records show that Blennis, who previously used the names Julie Ann Schmid and Julie Ann Dilullo, served two prison terms in 1992 and 1996 for theft and fraudulent schemes cases. She is currently being held in the Maricopa County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 cash bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for October 22 in Maricopa County Superior Court.
