Time for Giving Thanks

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I would like to express my appreciation for the many good things that have taken place this year at the Attorney General's Office.

I want to give special thanks to:

  • The attorneys and staff at the Attorney General's Office, whose dedicated service and high-quality work are such a tremendous asset for our State.
  • The ongoing cooperation and professionalism of law enforcement agencies across Arizona. Officials and officers at the local, state and federal level who time and again put the public interest first, working together to fight crime.
  • The outstanding group of 50 volunteer mediators who help resolve many disputes and the 190 volunteers who staff our 25 satellite offices around the State to provide citizens with convenient access to information and assistance.
  • The more than 25,000 consumers who took the time to file complaints with our Office in the past year. These complaints led to many important investigations, lawsuits and settlements.
  • My colleagues in the National Association of Attorneys General, who have coordinated efforts in a number of important cases, especially in the area of consumer protection. I also want to applaud the excellent cooperation of Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff. Our joint efforts on the Warren Jeffs case and other matters relating to the polygamous sect on the Arizona-Utah border have helped us make much progress in the past year.
  • The Arizona Legislature, for funding new positions to help fight methamphetamines, identity theft and human smuggling.
  • The 40 city and town councils across our State who enacted anti-methamphetamine ordinances similar to a measure that failed to gain legislative approval.
  • The civic commitments of thousands of Arizonans who serve on juries each year. I want to particularly thank the men and women who stayed committed during the 10-month Baptist Foundation case, the longest criminal trial in State history.
  • And last, on a very personal note, my thanks to Arizona's voters whose support gives me the opportunity to work with you for four years more as your Attorney General.

May you, your family and loved ones have a safe, joyous and blessed holiday season.

Terry
