Strong Year Summarized in 2007 Annual Report

The past fiscal year was highly productive for the Attorney General's Office.  Our wide range of excellent work and many accomplishments are summarized in our newly posted 2007 Annual Report.

The 42-page document covers work done by our attorneys and staff from July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007.  The report recaps achievements by each of our divisions and highlights some of our major cases and initiatives.  They include:

  • An intensified effort to protect our families from methamphetamine and prevent its use.
  • Successful prosecution and prison sentences in the massive Baptist Foundation of Arizona fraud case.
  • The breakup of one of the largest human smuggling operations in Arizona's history.
  • An active role in a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that affirmed states' rights to regulate emissions and protect the environment.
  • Additional efforts to enforce the law and assist crime victims in the polygamous community of Colorado City, Arizona.
  • Helping protect consumers in three nationally prominent prescription drug cases.
  • A Supreme Court victory in an important capital punishment case.

The Annual Report explains this Office's responsibilities (page 4) and features a chart listing the Top 10 Consumer Complaints (page 35).  Also noted is our cost-effectiveness in defending Arizona against liability lawsuits.  Claims of more than $3 billion were filed against the State in the past year.  We were able to resolve those claims for only $6.7 million.

I'm proud of the broad scope of high quality professional work done by our Office to benefit the citizens of Arizona.  Please take a moment to review our 2007 Annual Report.
